9:45 – 11:00 AM: Panel 1 – Impacts of Large Load Additions on the Grid

The impacts on the electric grid associated with the addition of large loads has become a significant focus of attention for politicians, utility regulators, grid operators, utilities, and consumers. But not all large loads are the same, and there are both opportunities and risks associated with their location and development. This panel will explore the drivers behind the increase in facilities requiring significant consumption of electricity, the different types of large loads and their operating characteristics, and the impacts of these facilities on both the grid and certain underlying policy decisions about how electricity will be sourced. We will explore these issues from the perspectives of industry analysts, state regulators, the grid operator, and developers/end users.
