12:45 – 2:00 PM: Gas-Electric Coordination
Preparing for Extreme Weather – Recent years have seen an increase, both in terms of frequency and magnitude, of extreme weather events over widespread geographic footprints. With the changing resource mix and the increase in peak electricity demands during extreme weather events, the challenge to keep the lights on when the gas system is also constrained can result in loss of life and property, as was recently the case during Winter Storm Elliott. Come hear those that are in the trenches debate how to ensure reliable electric service during peak periods and extreme weather through improved gas and electric industry coordination.
Speakers include:
- Craig Glazer, Vice President – Federal Government Policy, PJM Interconnection
- Thomas Pinkston, Senior Market Advisor, Office of Energy Policy and Innovation, Federal Energy Regulation Commission
- Chris Smith, Regulatory Counsel, Interstate Natural Gas Association of America
- Ken Yagelski, Director of Gas Supply, Southern Company Gas
- (Moderator) Andrea Chambers, Of Counsel, DLA Piper
2:10 – 3:20 PM: Energy and Technological Innovation in the Northeast
Energy and technological innovation is affecting the grid and resource adequacy across the northeast. Innovative users and producers are changing the needs on the electric system and creating new opportunities for system expansion, storage, onsite and offsite generation. Each speaker in this group will describe how their organization fits into this hot conversation and provide an insight to the solutions available to address rising energy needs.
