Join the Compliance and Enforcement Committee for an Energizer on NERC Enforcement 101.
The Compliance and Enforcement Committee of the Energy Bar Association will feature a discussion between practitioners and NERC Enforcement staff about the NERC Enforcement Program. NERC is the North American Electric Reliability Corporation and is recognized by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as an Electric Reliability Organization, whose mission is to assure the reliability and security of the North American bulk power system. The first discussion will cover the history and background of NERC, the Risk-Based Compliance and Enforcement Program, the Oversight and Trends of Enforcement, overall guidance on a strong compliance program, and an outlook on future trends/challenges. The second discussion will cover the challenges and scope of being the lead compliance and enforcement authority for one of the eight regional entities within NERC’s jurisdiction. The learning objectives will allow attendees to understand how NERC became the enforcement authority overseeing reliability of the North American electrical grid, the scope of how registered entities complying with NERC standards can maintain a healthy and robust compliance program, and finally to provide an overview of how regional entities play a role as the compliance and enforcement authority.
