The initial principal fundraising effort of the Foundation was its Founders campaign. The Founders Campaign was a two-year program during 2003 and 2004 to encourage the law firms and companies who employ EBA members to contribute to the Foundation as a means of providing the Foundation a solid financial base as it commenced its operations.

The Founders Campaign was an incredible success. 25 law firms and companies, as well as 17 individuals, pledged and made contributions to the Foundation at levels sufficient to become Founders. In all, $219,000 were pledged in the Founders Campaign. The Foundation wishes to express its deep gratitude to its many Founders for their wonderful generosity and acknowledges them immediately below.

The Foundation sponsors scholarships to fund energy-related internships for both undergraduates and law students in Washington, D.C. The Foundation works with The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars to help fund undergraduate internships in Washington, D.C., for which students get college credits. Past interns’ placements have included the Action Committee for Renewable Energy (ACORE), the Department of Interior, and the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program. In the fall of 2007, CFEBA and TWC have placed an intern at the Department of Energy; it has also been working with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to develop an internship slot for the spring 2008 semester. CFEBA also sponsored a Legal Intern at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during the summers of 2006 and 2007, for which the interns received a stipend, and anticipates doing so again in 2008.

2008 ENERGY LEGAL INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

As it has done for the last two years, the Charitable Foundation of the Energy Bar Association (CFEBA) plans to sponsor a Legal Intern at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission during the Summer of 2008. Interns should be currently attending law school; preference will be given to 2nd year students. The CFEBA Legal Intern receives a stipend from the CFEBA equivalent to the salary paid to FERC’s summer interns, and works for the FERC’s Office of General Counsel (OGC) on a variety of projects, gaining experience in different areas of energy law. Last year’s stipend amount was $7200, which funded a 10 week internship. If you are interested in applying for the 2008 CFEBA FERC Legal Internship, contact Susan N. Kelly, Chair of the CFEBA Scholarship Committee, at 202-467-2933 or skelly@appanet.org by October 31, 2007.
